John Laurens, a forgotten historical figure, is a remarkable American Revolutionary War soldier who should be remembered for his abolitionist stand and heroism. As an aide-de-camp to George Washington, Laurens proposed the implementation of black regiments in the Continental Army in the South, offering freedom to slaves who fought. Unfortunately, southern state governments rejected his proposal multiple times. Despite this, Laurens should be remembered as a patriot who took a stand against slavery at the beginning of America’s history.
